ABOUT DIANA
Growing up in a family of artists and craftspeople, creating seemed as natural as breathing. From earliest childhood I’ve loved the patterns around me—from the weavings and Marimekko fabrics that filled our home to the granite, lichens and seagrass of my native Massachusetts. When I was old enough to be trusted with a needle I took up embroidery, followed by sewing, painting, knitting and screenprinting.
My pattern and illustration work draws on all my loves: the natural world as well as craft, art history and textile traditions. My goal, always, is to bring happiness though the beautification of everyday things.
I live in Chicago with my husband, our rambunctious 4-year-old son, and a collection of stuffed animals whose adventures are limited only by my child’s imagination. I have degrees in English from the University of Chicago and in Interior Design from Harrington College of Design. In addition to designing patterns and illustrations, I create custom hand-embroidered and appliquéd textile pieces for weddings, work that you can see at my web site Rafters of Cedars.
